We chose golf as our sport and our beach Portstewart Strand as our local landmark. Golf is very popular the moment with The Open coming in July. We chose our beach as it is an amazing place to get out and get active doing all kinds of activities like walking, swimming, running, football, hurling. It is a great place for all ages and all abilities to get active in a beautiful environment – helping our physical and mental health.
We created our piece as a cube shape and balanced it on one of the corners. The bottom of the cube represents the darkness – we used black card and painted torn up egg boxes to make rocks. We added the danger sign and the steps leading to the beach.
The top of our piece is the light. We painted the sea, sand and made Portstewart Golf Course which has stunning views of our beach with Mussenden Temple in the distance. We used real sand to make our beach, made a Mussenden Temple from a recycled tube and coffee stirrers and a yoghurt pot. We also used our coffee stirrers for the ‘sticks’ on the beach and for the railings on the steps. We used old lego figures for people playing golf and enjoying getting active on the beach.
We had great fun creating our artwork!
