'A Giant Step'
'A giant Step' depicts the picturesque Giant's Causeway, an area of outstanding beauty at the heart of the Causeway Coast. Through the hexagonal interlocking stones (created by coffee stirrers and clay) you will see how our children show the variety of sports that can be played here - we just couldn't pick one! For example, one child has made a 3D rugby ball with clay while another has engraved a golf club into the clay. These stones which are supported by coffee stirrers show how we can support each other through sport. You will also notice that the tiles are not always smooth or perfect, some have cracks and rough surfaces reflecting the journey through life which has its challenges, set backs and difficulties. Imperfections appear in everyone's life journey.
A small battery light has been placed inside the steps to illuminate and represent hope, healing and a positive state of mind. On the steps you will notice that the children have drawn and written messages that encourage us to go from the darkness towards the light one step at a time... 'you are enough' one child wrote while another scribed, 'love yourself'. These steps are significant as they show that there is no one 'giant' step that helps us move forward but it is lots of little steps - just as there are many steps that make up the Giant's Causeway. We want everyone to know that when you feel that you have still a long way to go, it's important to look at how far you have come. So rise up and keep stepping forward - there are GIANT advantages to taking that first step.
